Imagine a tiny bar in Omaha whose walls are plastered with dusty record jackets from old blues crooners to rockers to country western stars to R&B legends. Hundreds of them. Floor to ceiling. It feels like the bedroom of every teen character in every John Hughes film, but with booze on tap.

What makes this club special are the bands that play there. Every musician on this record has stomped around its carpeted, floor-level stage, belting it out toward a back wall close enough to hit with a swung microphone.

They cram into this place every night, shoulder to shoulder, peering over and around each other to catch a view — the scuzzy rockers, the hipsters, the music vets, the city folk, the small-towners, the huddled masses. It’s a hot, sweaty, cultural melting pot, a good place to meet someone new and hear a band that will challenge your musical taste.

This record is the soundtrack to that mystical miracle of a bar. Each artist was carefully chosen to represent a patch of Nebraska’s limitless prairie of sound. Get comfortable. Pour yourself something cold. Drop the needle.
